Hi,

For some reason I can’t "alt click" selection area for clone or heal tool. Am unsure if the locking symbol in Layers is the cause. I don’t know why this occurs, as am sure this use to be always unlocked on freshly opened files.

When I try to use clone or healing tool, I just get the dreaded red alert to select an area by alt clicking… but it makes no difference.

Have tried clearing settings on opening, but this had no effect.

I first struck this annoying action when I first started using Photoshop 7; never had this happen using 4.0.

Cheers,
J

Hi JWSM,

this is just a shot in the dark, but you may have the same problem I have. If I use the alt key on the right hand side of my keyboard (I am left handed, so I hold the pen/mouse in my left hand) it does not work! If I use the alt key on the left hand side of the keyboard, it works fine. This "error" only occurs in Photoshop. In all other software both of my alt keys work fine.

Brian.

Thanks Brian, but that had no effect. I feel something is locking the file by default… as I have had this happen before on other systems. It’s very frustrating that’s for sure…

Could not use the clone stamp because the area to clone has not been defined (Alt-click to define a source point)…

Most likely you installed some other software that grabs the alt-click, or you changed the keyboard mapping…
