Anyone out there have workaround adjustments to center photo at 13X19? I’ve read in this forum that Photoshop only centers image in printable area, not printable area itself, however there must be a workaround. I’m using CS. Canon software (Easy Photoprint) makes the proper adjustments, but I can’t center using Photoshop-tried uncentering. What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Fred

Are you starting with a 13×19 canvas, or printing directly from the image to the printer?

Larry:
Starting with 13X19 canvas. Image & canvas size are both 13X19 & Scale to fit media is unchecked to permit unchecking centering.

Then you have to fiddle with the printer controls to adequetely center the image, although, I find it not too far off, maybe 1/8" max.

Try this: Fill a 13×19 canvas with a color, print it with the default settings for centering, measure the actual unprinted area, split the difference between the two opposite edges and compensate in the position dialog. You should get a good take on the errors. The 9000 does not do a bleed 13×19, so you will always have a white border.

I wish it were better, but we simply do not have any direct control over the printer in this matter.

I think Epson is also fussy here.

Seems position controls are being overwritten by Canon driver. No effect when I change. Over course I can see change in the preview but the photo prints in exactly the same spot. Interestingly letter size (with borders) prints correctly but it is just the 13X19 that is off for me. Thanks, Fred

All my 13×19 are on a canvas with images smaller than full size, and I can get the whole system centered with the canon controls. I uncheck the centering box and enter my own numbers.

You might want to move up to the i9100. I understand it handles 13×19 bleed, so it should have better centering capability.

Can you share what size you make the images and what you typically put in for top & left adjustment & I’ll try the same thing. Also to uncheck centering, I know you also have to uncheck scale to printable media. Do you make a note of the % before unchecking & then manually type in the %, or do you leave it at 13X19 (100%). Many thanks, Fred

Fred,

You can always "trick" your printer to get a centered white margin image by applying the appropriate width white "slivers" to the edges of your image. With your Background Color at the default White, do an Image> Canvas size adjustment and add enough white margins by expanding your Canvas size to cause your actual uncentered image to appear centered on the printout. After adding the white shims to your image it may no longer fit within your printable area, so you may need to scale it down to make it fit. It would probably be better to reduce the size of your original image so that after you add the white shims the resulting canvas corresponds to your printer’s printable area.

Of course that will reduce the size of your visible printed image but if your printer has unequal mandatory margins, as I suspect it does, that is something you have to live with if you want your prints to have equal width visible white margins.

I personally don’t like white margins because I laminate my prints and trim off the unequal white margins (using a rotary cutter) to get a marginless print in a standard photo size like 8×10. If you want standard photo sizes with equal white margins, you could also trim your prints to make the margins equal in width.

Print directly from Photoshop creating a canvas the same size as your paper size and place the image where you want it on the canvas. Make sure your "Page Setup" prints to your S900 and using the "Print Advisor" choose the appropriate settings. Also make sure your "Paper Size" and "Orientation" are correct. Make sure you also check "Preview before printing" on the main section of the S900 printer dialog.
