Look into layer effects: Bevel, emboss, drop-shadow and gradient layers, filters-render effects.

A very simple way to achieve that effect is to make a triangular selection on the top left corner of a new layer, with a soft edge. Fill it with white, it will face out where the soft edge is. Then nudge that layer slightly to the right and down. The top and left edges of the filled triangle will have hard edges, as per your sample image.
