QT is the resource known and loved by Mac users
everywhere. If you’re a PC user, you might also take a look at
Cam Studio and the other goodies at this site
http://www.ehelp.com/camstudio/product/screenrecording/ (But Lord, do I miss Lotus Screen Cam!– it did exactly what you wanted it to do, without a lot of BS you didn’t. Now you often have to use a Swiss Army Knife when all you need is a scalpel.)
If Flash is giving you nightmares, try SwishMax
http://www.swishzone.com/ Slimmed down, shallower learning curve, still pretty powerful, much less expensive
Lots of goodies, inspiration and tutorials at
www.flashkit.com

Dreamweaver available via Macromedia
(URL’s keep changing, root around a little bit,
might be buried under Authorware)
ASTD is about theory, not practice. Sorry I misunderstood. Instructional design is such a niche market….. 🙂
I’ve stopped telling people what ID’s do. LOL

Thank you for the site reference. I have already been there and, as far as
I
am concerned, there is nothing there that gives me a clue. I know what can be done with HTML, XTML and web production. I would like to know how these people put together the Quick Time movies showing a moving cursor across
the
active screen pointing out what they are talking about at the time. No
where
does it give a clue as to what programs they are using. I know I have seen
a
program that records the sound and cursors movements while putting
together
a show but I can’t for the life of me remember what company it was or what the name is. I was just hoping that someone here might have run across something like that. And, of course, it could be that I am so dense that I just don’t get it at all. I guess I need to have some definitions on what Fireworks, Flash, other programs can actually do. A nice paragraph saying that if you want to do the following, use this program. It will do step 1, step 2, etc. I said I was a real beginner but I have time and patience and willingness to learn. Not a lot of money though.
Again thanks for your input. I may just be missing the obvious.

While I’m not in the business, I would highly reccommend that you visit http://www.lynda.com/. There are many resources for learning how to use the different programs and she has a special section specifically
for
educators.

2) is there place to go to gain an understanding of how it is all put together, sort of in a step fashion. I know that businesses have
workshops
and such but, again, I am not a business
