I’ve just finished working on a PSD file. I saved a copy of it as a bitmap to take to the printer; I then wanted to open the PSD file again but I found that it had disappeared from the folder I had it in. I’ve searched the PC and Recycle Bin for it to no avail. Anyone have experience of Photoshop CS losing files in this way?

Just a wild guess – you did a save as to save in a different format and forgot to save the .psd? (I.e. you only did one save and not two).

No, I’d been working on it over a few days and was definitely saved as a PSD. Since I’d finished the job and got it to BMP, the real worry is paranoia about future PSDs’ security.

OK. Well, as fart as I know, the Twilight Zone has yet to be one of Mr Gates installations, or Adobe for that matter. Files don’t just disappear. If you did save it then at some time, someone, even yourself accidentally, has deleted it. Files may become corrupt but they don’t just vanish 🙂

Did it not appear in the "Recent Files" list after you saved it? PS usually remembers at least the last 4 files that were worked on. —

It disappeared from the Recent Files List too which goes some way to absolving me. I’m not saying it’s impossible for me to have deleted it accidentally; it would come as a bit of a shock if it was since I’ve never done it before, in spite of my fastidious attention to file structure and backup.

In terms of file corruption and vanishing, if the former’s possible, then so’s the latter (albeit rarely).

You can always do a search on your entire system for the first part o the filename. "start-search- files or folders" More than once I hav saved things into a folder only to find they werent in the one thought I had put them in. If it isn’t anywhere, then I’d imagine it t be in your recycle bin at least, unless you have it set to not stor anything
