This is a problem I’ve had for a while. I want to create a good looking path. So I ctrl click on my layer (in this case a text layer) and the selection looks great. Then I convert it to a path and the lines look terrible. Instead of a perfect circle for an O…it looks mostly like an O, but there are little bumps or there is an M where the straight lines arent so straight. Any ideas? I would like to be able to create custom shapes in the same way for example an NBC peacock….but the lines arent straight. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Darren

Learn to use the path tools instead of turning selections into paths. You can make a perfect circle with the ellipse tool and try to learn the pen tool too. It’s a very powerful tool but it takes lots of practice to master it.

Yes, that is correct. Paths that are created from a selection will always be inferior in quality.

The solution? Learn to use the Pen tool. Forget about trying to make paths from selections.

The Pen tool is arguably the most difficult tool on the toolbar to learn, but it’s well worth the effort. An accomplished user can create paths with the Pen tool very quickly.
