Had a running PS CS until today. Now getting a dialog that says:

———————————-
Phototshop Not Responding.

An error has been detected with a required
application library and the project cannot
continue. Please reinstall the application.

OK
———————————

This occurs after PS starts and appears to be ready for use. PS ends if I click on OK.

Can find nothing in XP event logs. Reinstalled PS CS – same error.

Fund that if I turn off ZoneAlarm then PS CS runs ok. Had just "updated" ZA to
4.5.538.001.

Anyone with similar problems????

ZA is a common cause of interference with operating systems, applications and so forth. It’s why I wouldn’t recommend it as a firewall and why a lot of people who use these things seriously call it hackware.

How so? I’ve used ZA for the last 2 1/2 years without a single issue. If you were to replace ZA with Norton in your comment, I would then totally agree with you, but as it stand, ZA is the best i’ve ever tried (read that small, unobtrusive and efficient software). The only other option I see for ZA is a router…

ZA has caused numerous [problems with Windows systems and with email clients to name but a few. It was notorious for bluescreening when interacting with antivirus programs. The latest version, is however, the most stable so far. But I couldn’t recommend it because of it’s past. You’ve been very lucky to have had no problems with it.

Yeah. But ZA also keeps stuff from calling home. A router won’t do that.

The number of programs that want to contact their manufacturer’s web site is absolutely astonishing. I assume that they are just lonesome and not actively doing anything nasty…. 😉

And so will a lot of other firewalls 🙂

And, of course, hardware firewalls too. 🙂

Yeah, think positive, after all these software makers wouldn’t want to know who you are, what you.re doing, …..

Finally found fix –

Took backup of system drive (this guaranteed that nothing would go wrong????)
Uninstalled ZA Pro.
Installed older version of ZA free.
Let ZA update to latest version of ZA free.
Turned on ZA Pro trial.
Entered ZA Pro license number.
Set all ZA Pro options and network properties.

PS CS now seems happy.
