How do I change the default directory for File Browser in Photoshop 7? Whenever I start Photoshop is automatically starts the file browser in the My Documents\My Photos directory. Can I change this to a different default?

Thanks,

Martin

For me it’s sticky. The directory where I left it, is where PS7 Browser opens again. Windows.

Martin, another thing you can do, which helps a bit, is to put your most frequently visited folder in the favorites within the file browser. I you haven’t done this before, just select the folder that you will want to open most often, (this is within the File Browser window). Click on File and Add to Favorites. Now, just above the thumbnails, pull down the menu and your folder will be listed in the favorites. Right now I have 3 folders there that I use a lot and it is a 2 key click process to get to where I want to be. I will also repeat what Diane has said. Mine usually goes back to where I was last. Otherwise, I don’t think there is a place where it allows you to choose a default folder to open. I could be wrong, since there are so many things that PSCS will do and I doubt if I will ever find everything in my life time.

Thanks for the suggestions-I’ll give them a trial. There is probably a registry hack that allows you change the default directory but I’m not about try to monkeying with my registry without knowing what I’m doing.

Back in the ’80’s my Atari St had a great little feature that allowed one to assign a directory to a function key for one touch navigation when the file selector was open.

When I find myself clicking thru folder after folder, I sometimes wonder why Windows has never reached this level of sophistication.
