Since I offer lots of free advice about Photoshop and other photographic matters on the web, I’d be interested in hearing opinions about whether this type of material should be paid for. Rather than outline all the arguments here I’ve created a web page that you can read. I’ll collect the comments that are emailed me from that page and add them to my online discussion.
Please click on the "free" information link on my home page to participate.

"Should be paid for" is not really a very useful question. Do you want to charge for your tips? If so there are different options available; monthly subscription, donation, per question, per hours it takes to answer to name but a few. Try charging for your tips. You might make some money from it.

Personally a page asking me to pay for info or tips last between a half and a full second on my monitor.
There are zillions of pages, why would I pay when:
A) I don’t know how accurate the info is going to be,
B) I don’t know anything about the author and
C) I can get what I look for free in a few clicks.
I buy books but not webpages, I am probably not the only one. Look at Janee, she gives you free tutorials on the web and/but makes money with paper publications, this seems to be a good model.

With even "how-to" video’s are becoming free, I also don’t believe paying for tips will work.

What’s the incentive for someone to pay? Is the free advice not accurate?

Yeah. Maybe a book would be a better idea. It’d be pretty hard to beat the competitors with a book, tho.

IMHO, the best use for tips, etc is to get people to visit your web site to see what you do and, hopefully employ you to do the stuff they don’t have the experience or skill to do. 🙂

That is without a doubt the best way. But if you really want to make a buck on tips, the book seems like a better answer to me. Well, that – be it true or false – was my point.

LOL You really are a Photoshop fundamentalist. One day you’ll start taking hostages, and demanding that every PS copy that’s ever been published along with any related product be handed over to you in 24 hours, causing an international scandal with hundreds of casualties… OTOH, maybe not. ;o) —

<g> Nah, it’s just that I believe you never stop learning and that most people who use PS have at least one thing they do that nobody else does and which is really useful. So if they write about it I want to know about it 😉
