Hi,

The small photos placed on the right of this page
(http://www.sandiego.edu/paralegal/faculty.shtml)
have an edge effect. It’s not "torn edges". Maybe more like a Polaroid Transfer, but not exactly. What is your opinion? Is this something you know? From a plugin package maybe? I like to do the same but I have no idea how.

Thanks in advance.

Nice effects. Looks like it might have been done in dissolve mode (one of many layer modes you can use in individual layers). I’m not familiar with any plugins that do those specific effects.

If you’re looking for a more "traditional" torn look, I find that using slight drop-shadows behind slightly-noisy randomized bleeds works pretty well. It looks as if a coated paper of some kind has been torn unevenly, and quickly. Here’s a little example I tossed together:

I used a similar technique for a client’s catalog a while ago. It turned out pretty well.

Yes. I recognized them immediately; they are some of the built-in defaults from Photo/Graphic Edges, a plug-in by Auto F/X.

And you can create similar with Quick Mask, and a bit of painting on the edges – or purchase the Auto F/X "masks." BTW, a lot of the older A-F/X channels were great, but about 60% were totally useless. I’ve not bought the new set, having all of the old CD’s, and in over 10 years have only used about 25, over, and over, again – though usually with some tweaks, often in Painter.

The effects shown are either the "frames" effect in Corel Photopaint, or more likely, a filter set called "Photographic Edges" which creates those exact effects.

All the best,
Brian.

Harry,

I think I will go with this one. Fast simple and effective. Thanks.

Others who found out it’s Auto F/X, thank you too. However, I will consider it when I have lots of photo work to do so at least I can pay for the plug in 🙂

Thank you all for your help in such a short time.
