When choosing View > Proof Setup > Custom…, in PS CS on a Mac my <Preview> button is grey and unusable.

Is there something I have to do to activate it?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Do you have a document open? You can set a custom preview without having a document open (that’s the way to change the default proof setup), but obviously you cannot preview anything if there isn’t any image to preview.

The browser is open and a raw photo selected and displayed in the (browser) Preview window, but the <Preview> button under View > Proof Setup > Custom is grey and does nothing when I attempt to click on it.

I figured it out.

I needed to use View > Proof Setup > Custom AFTER opening the Raw cr2 in the Raw Plugin and then clicking <OK> to get the processed Raw file.

Correct. Because you cannot directly work on a preview in the browser, you also cannot preview a change in settings on that preview.
