Look at the menu bar up top. How the ends fade and slant down. I cant get that look for the life of me. Its got something to do wit the gradiant tools, but I get a square edge everytime. Any good tuts o this effect?

I think there are many ways to do this, layer masks and feathering to name a few………try feathering for starters.

Just use the gradient, drag/aim it up and to the right at a 45 degree angle.

I’m not positive if this will help. Try this for giggles and see if i sets you in a direction.

Create a new image, add a dark layer any color.
Do a new fill layer, use a pattern of any kind.
With the fill layer active create a selection.
Use the gradient tool set foreground to transparent on the selection.

It should show the square recessed into the pattern with the gradien flowing. Play with inverting and such to make the selection appea raised instead of recessed.

Good luck
