I have installed Photoshop CS on Windows XP pro. With photoshop 7 I use to be able to see a photoshop thumbnail image when looking at the files in XP folders. The jpeg images work but not the PSD. All I get now is a Photoshop CS icon.

Thanks for any suggestions.

removed in cs due to problems with one of the dlls used to make the thumbnails. if you leave 7 installed, you’ll still get them.

Any luck with the PSD images? I can’t see the thumbnail either. Is adobe going to do something about this?

Adobe has banished thumbnail icons because they were troublesome to *some* users (caused file saving problems, for one) and they apparently are not coming back. You can try inserting the psicon.dll from PS7 in this folder in your root directory (normally "C")

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Shell

and see what happens. It may well bring your icons back from purgatory. Some people have resorted to hacking the registry to accomplish this, but the above worked for me.

If you are really upset that Adobe has harpooned your workflow with this "improvement", then go to the feature request section and ask that they either reinstate it, or make the File Browser useable. I know, I know… all you folks that used PS7 think the Browser is vastly improved, and, relatively speaking, it is. BUT, remember, it was a real howl-at-the-moon dog in PS7. It’s still ugly, only less so. Now it just takes a couple of beers to make it look good (instead of a six-pack).
