I got PE with my Canon 10D 8 monts ago; worked fine for this period of time; now, when I open them with other viewers, it’s still ok; but PE gives faded images. The only way I found is uninstalling PE and erasing all PE references in windows register; it works, but I would like to clarify the reason?
Thanks for any help.

Can you try resetting Preferences first? That’s what I would do in Photoshop. Not sure is that applies to Elements but if so it’s a lot easier than what you are doing and I bet you would only need to do it once.

I tried that first of course! But nothing related to that in the PE preferences.

I mean actually trashing the Preferences file. There should be instructions in Help on how to do it.

Here it is for Photoshop. Don’t know if it’s the same for Elements.

To restore all preferences to their default settings:

Do one of the following:
* Press and hold Alt+Control+Shift (Windows) or Option+Command+Shift (Mac OS) immediately after launching Photoshop or ImageReady. You will be prompted to delete the current settings.
* In Mac OS, open the Preferences folder in the System Folder (Mac OS
9.x) or Library folder (Mac OS X), and drag the Adobe Photoshop 7.0
Settings folder to the Trash.

New Preferences files will be created the next time you start Photoshop or ImageReady.

Try turning off Adobe Gamma. (Remove from bootup sequence). It is probably due to an incorrect color management profile created with adobe gamma. If switching adobe gamma off solves your problem then rerun adobe gamma and make sure you profile your display accurately.
