My scanned photos are in TIFF format, I have no choice. I can batch convert them into Photoshop-psd files , no problem. My question: Do I loose ***quality*** when converting? Or should I work with TIFF files? I am using Photoshop CS.

Not unless you turn lossy compression on. Of course.

Or should I work with TIFF files?

The effective difference between Tiff and PSD for PhotoshopCS: not a damned thing unless you’re using InDesign.

Is there some reason you feel the need to convert formats?

Thanks for the info. I don’t really need to convert the TIFF files but .psd files are the proper Photoshop files, I thougt.
I am using 16 bit negativ-film-scanned files. Can I use all the filters etc with TIFF files?

That was the idea originally, yeah. The Tiff format is owned by Adobe, though, and the changes over the years have brought it to the same standard. Moreso, if you count the possible lossy compression options (which I sure as hell don’t recommend).

Well, sure. When Photoshop is working on it, it’s not a PSD, Tiff, or any other finalized format.

And if you’re going to lose anything when saving, Photoshop will warn you.
