Ernst,
I’ve seen PS also shut down occasionally when using NikonScan 3.1.2 with my LS-2000 scanner. Most recently when that happened, my PC had been up and running for days without the scanner being on. I turned on the scanner, refreshed the Imaging Devices in Device Manager so as to redetect the powered-on scanner, and proceed to try and use it. Typically, this works fine but did not this most recent time. Actually, I think that may have been the first time I’d used the scanner under PS CS, and the result was that PS was killed.
So, given that it’s usually better to power on a PC after first powering on all SCSI devices to be used, I shut down my PC, turned on the scanner, and rebooted. That done, the scanner worked fine with PS CS. I just attribute this to the quirks of SCSI devices. If your scanner is also a SCSI device and you did something similar, powering it on after the fact, you might try the shutdown process as I did.
Regards,
Daryl
