Russell Brown has a tutorial on that. It is a quick time movie about half way down the page, here–

You might save yourself a lot of work, if you can avoid the moire upfront. It is not always possible to avoid it, but depending on how the image was acquired, there may be possibilities. Prevention is better than cure.

fwiw, i did several medical slide scans (nikon ls-5000) and while they looked clear in daylight, after scanning they all had profound, regular stripes. the pass filter removed them, revealing the underlying detail as if the bands were never there. perhaps it was not moire?

Or perhaps regular stripes are not the same as moire? 😉

Perhaps you should explain to the OP what you did. The High Pass filter makes an image completely grey if you use it at low pixel settings, and at least removes a lot of color if you use it at very high settings. Using this filter ‘just like that’ on a background layer doesn’t seem like a good way of removing moire.

Well, a band-pass filter may be helpful, but Photoshop does not have one. You can kluge a band-pass filter in Photoshop by adding two layers using the high-pass filter, but the quality is poor.

For our mutual interest regarding research imaging, I would be happy to exchange images to find out what was occurring with my case. tia, Warren.

Sure, send yours to wssarle [at] nc [dot] rr [dot] com and let me know what you want to exchange it for.

I used to get a lot of Moire because I use a Kodak digital camera that lacks an anti-aliasing filter. But it’s the wedding photographers who get it bad–black trousers coming out with yellow and blue stripes, etc.
