Cannot access layers

Greetings, I am just learning how to use Photoshop. I have created two pictures with text for use in FrameMaker. All that went well. But yesterday I tried to do more editing on the pictures, and cannot access them, like a glass wall in front of them. They come up in Photoshop, but I cannot get into the layers to edit them.

Is there an option that I mistakenly clicked? Or can the layers all get locked by themselves. I see no way to unlock them, if that is the case.

Yours truly, Earle Fox

What image mode are the pictures in (image>mode)? There are no layers available for indexed mode, but there are for rgb and cmyk.

Earl,

Are you seeing multiple layers in the Layers Palette or just a single Background Layer?

If the latter, it sounds as though your file has been flattened, in which case there are no longer separate layers in the file.
