This is probably a cockpit error, but…

The shortcut to display a layer mask shows as Ctrl+\ (in the layers palette).

But that doesn’t seem to work. The title in the image window changes to indicate that it’s displaying the mask, but the eyeball in the layers palette stays off, and the displayed image doesn’t change – all the other eyeballs remain "on."

Ctrl+\ doesn’t turn on visibility for that channel, it just scrolls to it. If the visibility is on it will show. If the visibility on that channel is on but off for the others then Ctrl+1, etc will reveal those channels. To get the colored preview of the Layer Mask click Alt+\. To only see the LM Alt-click on its thumbnail in the Layers Palette.

Don’t know if there’s a way to turn on the visibility only for a LM channel with a key command. Perhaps an action?
