How can I explain that better …

Mrs G bought PS7 at an educational price when she was a student. I just ordered a CS2 upgrade in my own name. Is there a point in the upgrade process where it cares whose name is on the software? Is this going to cause a problem with installing, or activating the software?

It’s probably a dumb question, but it’s just occurred to me that there may be a problem … ?

Reverend, when the software is registered with Adobe, you should register under your wife’s name. Just register over the net and give your wife’s name as well as her serial # from when she registered version 7. You cannot register CS2 upgrade without having first purchased and registering an earlier version.

Hmm .. well .. I upgraded PS7 to CS2 last night, and it asked for my (her) name and the new serial number. Never asked for the PS7 serial number. And the splash screen no longer says Educational Version on it, so all’s well.

Does this mean, however, that I have to keep every PS install disk, and that in the event of one of them being damaged, my upgrade chain is broken and I can’t reinstall if necessary?

You’ll just need to keep your qualifying PS full-retail version, in your case PS7. If you ever need to do a full re-install of your OS or install PS on a new system you can use your latest upgrade disk to install PS, but it’ll ask you for the full-version disk (PS7) for verification.

In my case, for example, I purchased a full version of PS6 several years ago and have upgraded ever since. I recently bought a new notebook computer and installed CS2 from the upgrade, and it asked for a qualifying full-version disk, which I inserted. After it confirmed this disk it asked me to re-insert the upgrade disk and continued with the install. Thus, I didn’t need to install PS6 first, then upgrade.
