Strange behaviour in PS CS

I have encountered a strange problem with CS. While using the lasso tool to create a selection, the left hand Tools palette suddenly turns solid white/grey, the image being worked on turns solid light grey, the colour/swatches/style palette turns white grey (same colour as the Tools palette), and the rest of the right hand side palettes are left in grey outline only. The grey workspace background and the top and bottom toolbars are unaffected. As soon as I release the mouse, the image and palettes return. The image seems undamaged, but the selection is lost and it’s a bit disconcerting to have the PS workspace blank out in this way.
This does not happen every time I use the lasso tool – it is unpredictable. This never happened with PS7 using the same OS and hardware; XP Pro; P4 2.6; 1024mb rdram; Matrox Parhelia.
No new PS plugins installed recently.
Grateful for any thoughts on what this problem might be.

while there’s no resolution in this thread, seems that at least you’re not alone. i thought this looked familiar.

Dave. I am very grateful to you for drawing my attention to the earlier post. It is reassuring that it seems to be a weakness in CS and not some problematic soft or hardware interaction on my pc. Do Adobe log the problems (like this one) that are noted in the Forum? (…and is it likely they will work on a fix?)

they do log them, i’m sure, but they need to be able to reproduce it in house before they can fix it. i’d provide as much info as possible here about your system and the image you’re working on when you have the problem. is it all images or just one specific? what are the details of the image? size, resolution, color mode, etc.

It can happen with any image. I have a file of the image on which it happened last time (4 minutes ago) and a screen grab of the actual problem – but how do I send these to someone at Adobe or post them?

I am working in RGB, – I can send screen grabs of my color settings and of the image anatomy windows (size, resolution etc).

– Hardware: Asus P4TE, P4 2.6, 1024mb Rdram, Matrox Parhelia, Soundblaster Audigy Platinum Ex, a gaggle of firewire, usb 2 and usb 1 stuff (including a Logitech MX700 mouse). Latest drivers for everything.
– Plugins: Extensis Mask Pro 3, Extensis Intellihance, Virtual Painter, buZZ Pro, Lucis Art, Right Hemisphere’s Deep Paint.
– XP Pro plus SP 1 and 2.

Grateful for any further advice on how to get this stuff to someone at Adobe. Thanks.
