What whould be an equivalent tool for an "Exposure Brush", i.e.. I saw this on some other high end editor but can’t quite define it in Photoshop CS.
i.e., You have a face that need some ‘exposure’ or ‘auto levels’ type correction. You can select that area, of course, but the brush approach is often super convienient. Like the Burn Tool, which MIGHT just be an exposure equivalent. But I didn’t know the inner working of PS as you guys do.

Thanks,
Paul

I don’t know of any real equivalent through v7 of photoshop except perhaps the Dodge tool which lightens or the Burn tool that darkens. That said, you can select an area with a brush (Quick Mask) and then pretty much do anything to it…

Also you might try to select a color from the face and then use a Darken or Lighten mode to paint with.

Paul, you can set up an action that launches an adjustment layer with a "hide everything" layer mask and just sart painting that adjustment, so the correction is dynamic and can be reverted by the "X" key.

Thanks Greg Vander Houwen for that excellent tip…

Or adjust curves to bring out shadows then step back one in history and "paint" with history brush as much as you like. Repeat for high lights.

There are lots of ways of doing this, like adjusting curves or levels and then masking it out and painting the mask with shades of grey. But something that often works better: use the history brush set to "multiply" or "screen" with an opacity of around 10-15%. It creates less colour saturation artifacts.
