Hi guys,

I’ve almost decided to buy a 22" one, but recently found a review on the Internet saying these new monitors are badly affected by wireless networks routers, which means the monitors are not properly shielded. I have the 2Wire wireless access point connecting me to the Web, so I guess I’m going to be in trouble with this monitor if I buy one. Could you, folks, give me any input on this?
I send email to Lacie a few days ago asking about this problem, but never got any response.
One more question, if I buy this monitor from a vendor other than LaCie would I still be eligible for their customer or tech support?

Thank you in advance for any help and your time.

If the monitor has CE and FCC tags, the monitor has been tested (not each one) for this. Particularly, the monitor has to meet radiation specs, that is, it must not interfere with other devices. As a second requirement, it must be adequetly protected from incoming interference.

In my experience, a unit that passes CE/FCC specs for radiation will also be well protected against incoming. The most likely culprit is the cable connecting the monitor to the computer. It should have proper shielding and common mode chokes built in, which LaCie has. That "lump" in the cable just before the connector and another one at the monitor is the choke. If it doesn’t have them, it may well be a reason to reject the unit. My LaCie has them, so I assume they all do.

Thank you, Lawrence.

Maybe that guy was just unlucky with his particular monitor.

You are welcome.

He also may have a ground lifted, or an unusually strong source of EMI.

I purchased mine through an on-line super store and contacted tech support for a minor problem. I had a response and resolution within 24 hrs. This is in the US, I might add.

For the record, my "problem" was two very fine parallel lines barely visible on the screen. Turns out this is not a problem, it is part of the mask. The lines are only visible if you look for them, so this is really minor. I have the 19 inch and think it is great.
