Hi all, I’m really counting on some help here as I’m almost pulling my hair out! (What little I have!)

I have an image of a woman with curly hair on a white background. I need to delete the white background as best as I can. I’d like to keep the background transparent.

What I did first was to follow steps to create a mask using the tutorial on the following webpage
http://mouseprints.net/old/dpr/ReplaceBG.html

But now I can’t seem to delete the white background from the original image…

HELP! 🙁

Thanks for anyone’s kind response… audreyen

I assume that you try to make the background layer transparent. that doesn’t work. Double click on the background layer and accept the new name (Layer 0). Now you can delete the white bg.

The link above is absurdly difficult, when it’s very simple to use Select-> Color Range. The background is easily selectable with the 6 meg file at top of his page. Then hit Q to bring up quickmask, and paint in the teeth and eyes. Exit quickmask, and hit Command-J. Now you have that selection on its own layer, transparent background…..

Actually, maybe your version doesn’t have that selection method. It’s in PS Cs, not sure when it was introduced….

One way I do it is to first make a duplicate image. Then I click the white background with the magic wand tool. I then click the delete key on my keyboard. Now if I have any areas on the subject missing any white I drag the dupe on top and add a Layer Mask in hide all. I then paint back in the white that was missing. This works well if all the white is originally selected.

Hmmm… thanks.

What i ended up doing because this lady’s curly hair was not responding well to everything I found online and mentioned here was to usher in a white background for my client’s artwork!

Thanks for everyone’s input!! -audreyen

what?
do you mean you decided it does not need to be cut out now? solution:if you can go through it go around it?
When my clients want things that are difficult I say I can do it but it’s going to cost a lot more. That discourages most weird/difficult/tacky requests.
