CS Brightens & Dims?

I Just finished a day of installing CS in a fresh machine (XP Pro sp1 w/ latest updates) and have had several odd quirks, lockups, & install problems w/ the entire suite. BUT, one truly irritating problem: PS8 / CS has a strange tendancy to change it’s brightness as different palettes and document windows within PS are resized, opened or closed??? Any ideas? PS7 still works fine. No other apps respond like this.

I’ve disabled Adobe Gamma, no change. Installed Monaco Gamma & callibrated the display setting new profile, no change. Updated video drivers, no change. Any help would be truly appreciated!
