I print from Photoshop 6 on 2 different computers to the same printer, 1 is on Windows 98 and one is on Windows XP, but the prints are vastly different. The Xp one is washed out, whereas the 98 one is quite crisp.

Can anyone please suggest any ideas.

Sounds like each one has different colour profiles set up. I colour management switched on?

Do you mean colour management in photoshop or in the printers. Have not yet been able to come to terms with color management.

In photoshop under colour management policies, thes are bothe turned off for all options, and in the top section, i have seleced monitor for the rbg section, US webcoated in CMYK, Grey Gamma 2.2, Dot gain 20%, but as yet I don’t understand them all.

Thanks

Paul,

I really recommend you go and spend 15 mins or so over at:

I too have difficulty coming to terms with CM [and I have read the stuff on the excellent site Len pointed you at]. This is why I was asking if it was switched off. If it’s off on both PCs, you’d expect to get the same results – maybe not good, by the same.

Do not set your working space to MonitorRGB. MonitorRGB is different for every computer.
1) <http://www.computer-darkroom.com/ps7-colour/ps7_2.htm> – calibrate and profile both pc’s with Adobe Gamma, if nothing else.

2) Change your working space on both PC’s to a standard colorspace, sRGB would be okay, since you’re not picky. <http://www.computer-darkroom.com/ps7-colour/ps7_4.htm>

3) Make sure the print driver settings are the same on both computers and the Print Preview settings are the same on both computers. < http://www.computer-darkroom.com/ps7_print/ps7_print_mac_2.h tm> .

Until you "come to terms with color management", don’t expect similar results on different systems.
