I am a Premiere user and aquired basic PS7 skills by reading this forum, tuts etc. I have a great pic of 2 family members at a fancy dinner table. The camera flash appears in the oil painting hanging behind them. It is quite white and distracting from the rest of the pic. I doubt I can remove it but I want to darken the reflected flash area, then crop and print a pic for them. Any tips would be appreciated.

If the reflection is blown out, there is no detail so darkening it won’t look so good. Since it is a painting, why not insert some other oil painting in that area. That might be considered intermediate to advanced technique but if the family picture is unique, it might be worth the effort.
I had a similar problem with a mirror. I inserted a Rocky Mountain panorama with a little blur and nobody noticed.

Or, just incase there’s anything there, select the painting and dup it to 1,2, or more layers @ set to multiply blend mode. You’ll find out quick if anything is there. If not fake it as Gary said.

Or have some fun with it and copy a portion of the photography – a "detail" – and do some "artistic, painterly" stuff to it and insert it where the blown out painting is???
