There have been a number of people complaining about problems using 2GHz of dual channel DDR RAM with PSCS. Whether this is a universal problem with PSCS or just a small biased sample, simply because you don’t complain when things are going right, is unclear. I can’t recall which threads off hand but if you search you should find.

1G of ddr seems to run well up to 75 to 80% of available, but as soon as you go to 2G, you have to crank down to 45%, effectively eliminating the extra RAM.

I came to a screeching halt on the purchase of new hardware because of that.

Randy,

I’m one of these "small biased samples" (?) – also running Asus everything and P4 3.0 with 2GB DC DDR RAM.

I have been posting on this problem I’m having (do an archive search) since about November ’03, when PS 7 wouldn’t work with some filters and custom actions with RAM allocation any higher than 40% on my new computer. Upgrading to CS made no difference, as did replacing RAM three times and mobo twice (as well as the dealer trying a Gigabyte mobo with no improvement).

Adobe have been somewhat conflicting in their responses (read the threads in the archives), but given that most likely a small portion of people who run PS would even be aware of this forum, let alone read it regularly, and even fewer would most likely contribute, I’d say that the number of responses on this problem (which isn’t, according to the latest Adobe position, but might have been, according to an earlier position, and wasn’t, according to an even earlier position) is representative of a big sleeper ready to wake up and bite.

The common thread seems to be P4 HT CPU with 2GB dual channel DDR RAM in 4x 512MB configuration, with a variety of mobo, video and RAM manufacturers.

Hi Randy,

I have also problems with PSCS and 2 Go of DDR400 (very S-L-O-W). But PS7 runs fine for me and it is very fast.
I don’t see the advantage to use CS with 2 Go at 40% then I am back to PS7 and my 2 Go set at 80%. It blasts!

My Specs:
Asus P4C800 Deluxe Mobo
P4 HT 3.0 800 Mhz Bus
4 x 512Mb of PC3200 DDR400 Infineon
Samsung SATA HDD 80 Go
