Every time I run Norton SystemWorks or perform any other changes to the registry, I have to reinstall or reactivate Photoshop otherwise it doesn’t work. How many times do you need to activate this garbage to use it?

Bad enough I had to come to a friend’s place to reply to this. I no longer have an internet connection. I think I just wasted $1099CDN on an overrated product. I should’ve waited for Corel 12 like the salesman said. I didn’t think this problem could be that bad. Pathetic.

I think I’ll just have to disagree with the license and get a refund.

Some people get a Jaguar, and all they can think about is how much gas it’ll use…

This sounds like your registry has gotten corrupted. Something about editing the registry on your system is causing the registry to lose critical activation related data, thus the forced re-activation. There can be additional causes of this as well (e.g., problems at shutdown causing XP to perform a System Restor). Time for some serious preventative maintenance before it gets any worse. And for gosh sake, stop damaging your system with that Norton stuff.

I feel your pain!!

Anyone that buys a Jaguar would have to be an idiot. Seems that Rick just bought a lemon that doesn’t go anywhere. I get the same problem too. The cause in not from Norton because I use Norton Utilities as well. I suspect that he’s using Norton Ghost or something similar such as Drive Image. I personally can’t stand the Windows System Restore feature as it leaves junk on your PC from the program that caused the problem in the first place.

Solve your problem by doing this. After doing a image restore>> uninstall Photoshop CS>> then do an error check with Norton Utilities>> then reinstall Photoshop CS. You may also want to use a program that cleans up the registry from removed programs: something like RegHealer; otherwise the stupid thing will look at your serial # as being invalid. You could also consider reverting to Photoshop 7. I for one don’t believe there enough features to justify an upgrade. I know it’s a pain, but really, there’s no other way around. Perhaps Adobe should consider a better registration/activation technique?

God knows why only Photoshop CS is affected by an image restore. You should also check into Corel Draw 12; I’ve seen some of the features it has and I am very impressed.

There’s nothing wrong with Norton when it’s protecting and maintaining a PC from errors, viruses and hackers.

Good luck!!!

Or, maybe he just doesn’t have an internet connection, did you ever think of that? Where on the damned packaging does it say that you MUST always have an internet connection to use Photoshop? This activation scheme was not very well concieved or implemented, even if it only causes .01% of Adobes customers this sort of inconvenience! And to just blandly tell people to not use Norton, which Adobe HAS to know is installed on thousands of systems or more (even though I would never use it due to problems it causes) is not an acceptable answer. It is a quick work-around, but it does not solve the problem that the activation can cause problems and hurts the end-user, without doing one thing to prevent piracy. I am still getting several emails daily for $39.00 Photoshop CS… they have not slowed down one iota!
