You’ll have to be more specific than that…

Text created in photoshop starts out as vector unless you rasterize it (or flatten). If you’re trying to make a picture of a tree vector… well, you have your work cut out for you.

Peace,

It is an image, not text. Is EPS considered a vector format?

EPS can be vector or raster

So in PS8, when I am saving as a Photoshop EPS, is that vector or raster?

Thanks.

EPS can contain both.
Raster data is saved as raster.
If you have any vector data, checking "save vector data" will save it as vector also.
This in 7, assuming option is similar/same in 8.

If you have a photo of some shape in PS, it is raster, however you save it.

To convert to vector you’d need some other software. Maybe Adobe Streamline is what you need ….

Why do you need to convert? The output? or ?? That’ll give the "pros" here a better handle in order to help.
More info please.

Yes, the output. I have created a logo in PS8 that needs to be printed as a decal. The printer requires some sort of vector based image.

Photoshop is not a suitable program for producing a vector logo. You want to use Adobe Illustrator or something similar.

Your best bet is to redraw the logo in Illustrator. And once you’ve done that, you’ll have an image that is scalable for any future application you may have for it.

Decals can’t be printed with continous tone images?

John,

If Osu is getting what I think he’s getting, the decals aren’t printed, they are merely cut-out from coloured vinyl (at least that’s how some vehicle graphics get done). The cutter’s blade just follows you bezier curves.

Thinking some more about it, I remember seeing some combo, inkjet printer/cutters at the DPIA show a while back. And they need vector art for the cutting part at the very least.

To save vectors in photoshop, you need first to convert the raster into vectors

It is possible to automate photoshop to produce vectors out of rasters. make selections->in the layers palette select the create workl path form selection… (I’ll post a link when I’ll be allowed to publicize it)

And it is also possible to redraw a raster using vector tools in PS: <http://www.heathrowe.com/tuts/vector.asp>

Of course, Illustator is made for that task.

Cutting vinyl has been discussed in the Illustrator/Windows forum a few times. A forum search there could be helpful. Generally, they want Corel Draw files, with simple curves, no broken lines.
