I deal with very large files such as 1.5 to 2.0 gig. I am interested in what I would need to decrease the time of opening, closing, and making adjustments to such large files. I presently use a pentium 4 1.3ghz. processor with 1024 gig of DDR ram and a 60 gig hard drive. When talking with any computer stores even Dell, MAC, and Gate Way they do not understand the special requirements of Photo Shop. Any advice would be greatly welcomed.

What I am doing is building Composites from a new folder, they range in size from 20 X16’s to 60 X 40 in size at 300 dpi. Some composites have as many layers as 850 or more.

You should try a faster CPU (3Ghz?) because it affects the speed of accessing files.
Next, you need to install an SATA disk drive or a very fast SCSI drive/ After that, increase your memory to 2GB. This will tend to reduce access to the Windows swap file and the Photoshop scratch space.
By the way, get two drives. That will allow you to separate the Windows swap file from the PS scratch space.

The only thing I have ever read is in the Knowledge Base. It suggested renaming the Digimarc Plug in to help increase speed. Presuming of course you don’t need it. I’m not sure how much that’ll help, but that’d be the only thing I can think of…

more ram and a faster processor would help tremendously too.
