Textures for layers and for applying to text on layers so that the text is ‘overlayed’ with a texture of image….. (correct language ?)

Me and my son (13) are fair to medium skilled PS users.

We have been unable to add new textures to the above function. Whenever we save new texture files (in PSD format) to the textures folder, it never shows up in the little box of textures in the Layer/Blending/Texture element window.

How do I do this ?

If it’s "live type" you won’t be able to do this. Either rasterize the type, or better yet, apply a texture via the Layer Styles.

But when I go to the Layer/Blending/Texture element window I cannot ‘see’ any texture I add into that folder…..
How can I make it ‘see’ these textures ?

do this

Filter>Render>Texture Fill

PS will tell you it has to rasterize the type – say yes

In the Popup window navigate to …Photoshop/Presets/Textures and select the one you want.

If you don"t see your texture it is probably in the wrong folder.

you have to load the textures first. Look in the textures palette, a little black arrow should give a drop down list, load the texture then try using the layer styles (no need to rasterize text to use a texture on it) if you do decide to rasterize (makes the text a graphic element) you will not be able to edit it as text.
