hi,

i bought photoshop 6 several years ago and have not used it on my new xp machine after i upgraded from win2k.

i just fiund out that there is a glitch using v6 on xp. i am not sure if it is some filter that i may have installed but the the question is:

can i downgrade a photoshop license? i found out that v5 has no such problems on xp! strange huh?

what do you guys think?

What problem are you experiencing? I use PS6 for testing on an XP pro system, without any problems I’m aware of.

hi mike,
thanks for the reply.
well i am trying to open tiff (400MB) or jpg (120MB) files and on the v6/winxp it would take like 5 minutes to open. on the v5 it would take a few seconds!
once it is opened everything is quite fast.

i do not have a win2k machine anymore to test it. i already checked the scratch disk/temp file settings and everything is set to drive c. there is more than 60 gb of space and the drive speed is 7200 rpm.

any other settings that i should tweak in xp to make it speed up? by the way everything is on a local machine and not network. thanks again

I seem to remember a speed issue with v6 that was addressed with the 6.01 update:

Worth a try to see if that does the trick. And the three fingered (ctrl-alt-shift) salute during startup if you haven’t done that one already. —

What does that hae to do with licensing?
The most common slow down at launch is too many plugin files, or a default printer set to a network spooler that isn’t available.
