Hi

I have Photoshop 7 installed on my computer, i use windows XP. Recently i’ve been having problems working with Photoshop, when you start it says that theres problems with Photoshop and Windows being on the scratchdisk and that they are on the same volume. When i use Photoshop it results in my whole computer freezing and i have to reboot. Can somebody help me with this?! I don’t know what to do..

see:

Mathias Vejerslev "Computer locks up, shuts down, or reboots while running Photoshop" 6/5/03 3:49pm </cgi-bin/webx?13/1>

just make sure it’s really locking up. right click on my computer on the desktop. go to performace> advanced and turn of restart on system fault. if it still reboots you have a hardware error – go to the faq link i posted above. if you get a blue screen error after unchecking that box, you most likely have some kind of driver error.

please give us a little more info on when exactly your system crashes. what are you doing at the time? does it restart every time or do you have to do something specific to make it crash?

it just crashes when you do little things like selecting, or moving the picture. i’ll try and turn of that restart on system fault.

Snooze,

Did you upgrade to XP be installing it over_the_top of your existing WinME ??

If so, that’s bad news. XP MUST be installed to it’s own new folder, preferably on a freshly formatted partition and then ALL software, drivers etc. re-installing, if you want a big-free system.

Yes I upgraded it over Millenium, but then my boyfriend did it again and he says Millenium is now gone. So i want to try to do it again, but i don’t know how to do that while maintaining XP. Coz when we did it the last time the programs where still there. Could you maybe explain how to do it?

snooze,

the process of doing a fresh install of WinXP is a little complicated and I don’t think this forum is the place for listing down the steps.

Just a few things for you to consider:

1. If your copy of WinXP is the upgrade version, you can’t do a fresh install. It has to install itself over WinME. If you don’t mind reformatting your hard disk, do a fresh install of WinME first then install WinXP (that is, upgrade WinME to WinXP.)

2. If your copy of WinXP is the full version, then as suggested in this forum posts, you might consider doing a fresh install of WinXP ONLY. That means reformatting your hard disk to get it ready for WinXP.

3. Be aware that reformatting your hard disk will WIPE OUT ALL YOUR DATA. It’s like having a new hard disk with nothing on it.

If I were you, I’d ask a friend whose more knowledgeable about computers (no offense) and ask him or her to do a fresh install of either operating systems.

Good luck!

Yep.
Especially since you CAN do a clean install of upgrade versions of XP, as long as you have previous qualifying media.

You do NOT have to "install over ME".
(no offense) 🙂

Thank you! 🙂

actually it’s pretty easy. just backup (save) all your data somewhere before you do it because it’s going to wipe your system. then pop the disk in, restart and it should walk you though it. but i agree with everyone else, it’s better if you have someone knowlegable around to hold your hand.

BUT… since we were going on about your system completely locking up under xp (over ME or not) you still may not solve your problem…

good luck.

I had the same problem on my computer. I fixed it by insalling an old 8 GB hard drive that I just use as a scratch disk. I have had no problems since.
