I have many pictures that I need to resize & I understand that I can make an action to do this for me. Can anyone help me out with how to set this up?

Thanks in advance!!!

I would encourage you to read your manual about the Web Gallery feature. You may not want/need a web gallery per se, but this is the easiest way.

Hey Ari,

I suppose your using Photoshop as you are talking about actions.

There are two functions in Photoshop you need to do the task at hand.

Actions and Batch processing.

First step, (creating the action)

1) Open an image in Photoshop you want resized , however keep in mind when you will be using an action and batch processing that all the images you want to resize will use the same parameters you use to resize this image.

2) See that you have the action palette on your screen (if not use Alt + F9) or if this shortkey doens’t work go to the menu Window and see that actions is marked.

3) Start the action by choosing new action (you’ll find a little icon below in the palette), give the action a name. (Bare in mind that all the steps you do now are recorded so be sure to not do unnecessary steps)

4) Go to the menu ‘Image’ choose ‘Image Size’ (here you’ll find all the parameters you’ll need to resize your image, bear in mind that you can also choose to reduce / increase the dpi, or use a % increase or decrease from your original image. Whatever you do to this image, the action will record this for all the future images you’ll use with this action.

5) Press enter and press stop on the action palette. You now have recorded your first action.

Now to speed things up, and do the same resizing job on a bunch of images, you first need to create two folders. One with the originals you want to resize, a second for the results.

Second step (creating a batch process)

1) Go to file > automate > batch

2) Here in the top menu’s you can choose the action you’ve just created. Below you can choose the path to the folder with the originals, and the folder with the results.

If you have correctly configured the above steps, press ok and you should now see Photoshop do all the resizing for you.

Hope this helps, if something is not clear let me know.

Ronald

P.S.: Don’t forget to save your action otherwise when your computer would crash it will be lost, as this is an additional action you created yourself.
