A friend asked me to find out… Which are good and not overly expensive monitors in 19"~21" range. He’s looking for a flat screen CRT. Nothing too fancy.

Also, he mentioned "EIZO". Is the spelling correct? If yes, are they any good?

Iiyama if you can get hold of them, are the best for price/performance and colour fidelity. Mitsubishi are also good, though not quite as good as Iiyama.

Yes, the spelling is correct. However, they don’t fit the "not overly expensive" profile <g>

I use philips and find the combination of Radeon 9200 video card and Philips 170S to give me as close to perfect colour and Dmax as I have ever had without a spyder and Sony Trintron. Interestingly enough, in Australia Philips are moderately priced. Highly recommend them.

Just a niggle!

I thought the 170s phillips was a LCD monitor and not a CRT as mentioned.

Maybe you have that confused with a 107s which is a CRT?

I’m looking at a Phillips 201B 21" CRT which is now selling at $800 au.

Is this comparable with the 107s CRT? or the Sony G520 in quality?

I heard that about recent Mitsubishi’s – that they no longer hold the edge in quality over the competition that they once did.

Is it a drop in quality of Mitsu or that the competition has gotten better?

(I own a Mitsu 2020 that is beginning to show its age after 5+ years of heavy use)

Seeing as Mitsubishi are the sole remaining (Japanese) manufacturer of CTR computer monitors, I’d say the choice of screens is getting pretty small.
