Hi,

All the users in my company ask for phoshop or illustrator only to be able to open the EPS files sent by our custumers. They don’t need to modify them.

Does it exist a viewer ? I tryed a lot of freeware and shareware, but non of them open properly the eps files.

Thanks in advance

Chris

Chris,

Am I to assume that you do not have either PS, or AI on the system(s)? Because of the encoding of PS, or AI-EPS files for those specific applications, I do not know of a stand-alone viewer for this file type. I’ll take a lood at a few that I have on my system, to see if any work. I have to admit, that I just open them in the Adobe application, that created them, so I have not had the need to look for other viewers. I’ll get back to you with what I find.

Also, you might ask about The Gimp (freeware image manipulation program – don’t have it, or the URL, but it is readily available). I do not know what it’s capabilities, and/or limitations are, but many really like it.

OK Chris,

ThumbsPlus (www.cerious.com, shareware) will give you a pretty rough thumbnail view of a PS-EPS. I did this quickly, so there could be a way of generating a better "preview" in PS, when Save_As PS-EPS is used, but you can get a *very* rough, B/W preview, even though the image is RGB color.

There’s an app called GhostView that will,do it. You have to install Ghost Script first. Google it and follow the directions.

Or just buy Illustrator or Freehand. You might be able to find demos of them which should let you view EPS files.

Consider Ghostview:

http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/

You can also place most EPS files in Word, etc., or get the network version of distiller. Anyone who receives an EPS file can simply drop it in the watched network folder, and distiller will convert to a PDF.
