If it’s blurred you probably want to sharpen it up, rather than ‘clean’ it. -> Go to Filter > Sharpen > Unsharp Mask. Try…
Amount 30
Radius 3
Threshold 0

to start with.

Thanks I will give that a try. usually the sharpen results in noise around the edges.

Try duping the layer (or making a merged new layer if there is more than one layer involved) and applying the Highpass filter. Use preview to find the smallest setting that still gives you all the main detail edges. Then set the blending mode of that layer to Overlay. Variations can be had by using the other contrast blend modes, such as Soft Light. If it’s too sharp, lower the opacity of the highpass layer.

There are ways of sharpening a blurred image (as long as the blur is within reason). I am the author and creator of one such plug-in for Photoshop. However I can mention it by name or provide the address here as Adobe gets their panties in a bunch. I would suggest that you do a Google or Yahoo! search for Photoshop Sharpening Plug-in or Sharpening Plug-in, etc.

There are ways of doing the sharpening without having to worry about the noise. I wish I could be more specific. If you want to contact me privately you can. rb*NOSPAM*@galaxyflyer.com (Remove the *NOSPAM*)

Run Unsharp Mask, go back one step in the history layer and then set the history brush to the sharpened state in luminosity mode at opacity around 40% and paint the areas you want sharpened.

Peter,

I think Focus Magic is better than Photoshop’s Unsharp Mask because it restores focus over the entire image rather than just exaggerating the edges. You can find examples and download the software for a trial evaluation at:

Focus Magic can also fix motion blur to a certain degree:

Focus Magic is also better at removing halftone patterns than anything I have tried:

There are many ways an image can get blurred or out of focus. It is commonly believed that once an image is out of focus you can’t restore the focus, but to a certain degree Focus Magic can do just that, using a computation-intensive mathematical process called deconvolution.

I see that the new version 2.0 is out now, so I will be downloading it to upgrade my version 1.23.
