Re,

I have Athlon XP 2200 + 1GB RAM + 160GB HDD. Had no problems with PS CS1 but when I run PS CS2, My "available physical memory" looks like a countdown timer for a rocker launch: it goes from 800MB to 5MB in about 2 minutes, while the page file usage goes from couple of megs to 2GB and up..

What’s up with that? Photoshop idles yet eats all the memory. Any clue?

Thanks.

Go to adobe.com and under ‘support’, type ‘athlon’. If there’s not a mention, come on back here.

How much physical memory are you letting PS use? 50% is the usual figure. Yes, it is supposed to grab all that you have allowed it to grab whenever you start the program. That is the most efficient way to allocate physical memory.

It is set to use 60%. But it goes on using more and when only about 2MB is left, it starts using page file that goes from 300MB to 2GB+ and counting.

You’re not running one of those awful "Memory defragmenting" or "Memory optimizing" programs, are you?
