I noticed a tutorial on a forum I use and thought I would see if you are as impressed as I am by the quality of these pictures? The guy uses software I had never heard of to combine numerous copies of the same picture taken with a tripod but with different exposures, the software then evens out the result, the finished pictures are unbelievably smooth!! you have to see the full size image and then blow it up even further! to realise how smooth they are.

all our subjects are humans so it is kind of impossible to make multiple frames match even with a tripod
may as well get out the old 4×5 if we’re gonna make ’em sit still

I usually find a couple of valium in their coffee whilst waiting does the trick 😉

Hecate – The Real One

I once had to photograph a lizard for an ad. The little bugger would not behave, and we were going through boxes of 6117. After about three hours of frustration, the stylist grabbed the lizard, threw it into the fridge and said, "OK, let’s break for lunch." While the pizza was being delivered, I noticed that she kept checking in the fridge. When the pizza was gone, save a last piece, or two, she fetched the lizard, who was rather cold, but seemed to be alive. I held my breath, as she carried him to the set, placed him in the exact position that the art director had specified, and I got about 10 shots with strobe, before he moved an inch. When we were done, she wrapped him up, and warmed him to room temp, and he behaved exactly like he had in the studio, before lunch, running all over the place! Seemed to not harm him one bit. NOW, if we could only place some of the "talent" into the fridge to slow them down !!!! Heck, you could even shoot kids on 4×5.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane,

Lizards are cold blooded so they simply slow down when cooled. Don’t try it with a hampster :).

If you put a hamster in the fridge you won’t have any food left next time you open the door 🙂

Nicholas,

So it’s not a good plan to place the son of the art director, who has been cast in the photoshoot, and won’t behave, into the fridge? Glad I didn’t try this trick on him! :-}

Now, let me go catch my hampster and test your theory.

the hamster reminded me of another funny story
my sis put her hamster in it’s cage
she was a busy little thing and would frequently escape and we’d put her back in it
one day we just couldn’t find her anywhere and we assumed the worst, that one of the cats had eaten her!
Months went by and I went to the wardrobe closet to pull out a gown The hem was completely shredded
Anna the hamster had been living in there and making nests, quite a few long dresses had been ruined….

That’s where my idea of a couple of valium in the coffee comes in useful…
