I am trying to apply a gradient to a photo that will have it fade to transparent? Any suggestions??

Make a copy of your background layer and apply a layer mask. Now apply a black-to-white gradient to the layer mask. (You’ll have to hide the original background layer to see the transparency.)

You can set up a gradient that fades to transparency in the gradient editor. Just select the slider you want to adjust and then adjust the opacity slider
