For the last 4 years I have been using PS 5.0 with Win 98SE and a venerable old Epson 740 Color printer. I got great prints that closely matched what I saw on my monitor.
I was able to make the necessary subtle color corrections with my printer software. It allowed me to add or subtract varying amounts of Cyan, Magenta and Yellow to tweak the final color output as needed. I just switched to Win Xp and PS 7.0 but kept the same printer. However, now my Printer "Properties" look different. I can’t find a way to get into an advanced mode that lets me tweak the CMY colors to get my prints to look like my monitor image. Also the prints are paler than with my old setup.
Any thoughts on why my printer "Properties" look different?? Bob Williams

Windows XP has probably set it up with its own drivers… go to Control Panel> Printers & Faxes and see if there are two versions of your Epson 740 printer… Go to Properties>Printing Preferences for each printer… one will show the Preferences you have been seeing and the other will show the Preferences you you want to see… make that the Default Printer.

Maybe both Photoshop and the driver are handling color management. Make sure only one of them is taking care of color management.

The printer properties might look different, because you are using the standard driver that came with Windows XP. Try to download the most recent driver from the web.

WALDO is correct
the XP "come with " drivers will make prints but do not have any of the Epson’s driver features.
I have an old 1270 and the XP driver does not show me the ink levels or any advanced choices.
Epson website is very good and has details for installing the correct drivers, do not use the "update driver" from the windows menu.

I think that is the answer.
When I was using Win 98SE, I used the Driver supplied on a CD by Epson. When I switched to Win Xp, Windows provided its own driver. I’ll check out your "fix" and let you know how it works out. Thanks for the Heads Up.

Sounds Familiar.
Win Xp’s driver did not show ink levels in my case either. 🙁 I’ll Check out Epson’s site for latest drivers
Thanks folks. I always get good answers from this NG.

I had the same problem with my 1270, but there is a utility on the Epson website to add the printer status monitor. Download and install it and you will see the same display as you did before

HAVE AND USE IT (my 1270 still makes wonderful prints and I love the ink levels feature in the driver)

I highly recommend using manufacturer’s device drivers over windows "come with" approved drivers for almost any device.

after installing win xp and sp2

I always load manufacturer drivers for
my printer
vid card
sound card
mouse (even though it’s a MS mouse the add-on driver has more features)
