How do I save an RGB image that contains some transparency on the layer? Currently when I save to .eps with a transparent background the background defaults to white.

Can someone help me understand how to save in .eps while keeping all the color in the image.

Thanks in advance!!!

First you need to draw a path around the opaque object, save the path (path palette flyout arrow) and then make it a clipping path; then save as EPS. When saving, problems can occasionally occur if you have Postscript Color Management checked in the EPS options, so forego that unless really needed.

I’m still using PS 6.0. (Mac) so I’m not sure how different it may be from yours. If I’m mistaken or sharing ancient information I’m sure others will chime in;)

Alternatively, if you don’t specifically need an EPS, save it as PNG-24, but the background must be transparent, not white/color, so don’t flatten.

It depends on the final output. What is the eps being used for? Is it going into another program like Quark? If so a Clipping Path is in order.

It may be that eps is not your best choice.

Inez,

It is still the same through CS2 (PC, and I am sure MAC). Also, as you and edjh state, EPS might not be the best solution, but if it is, your directions will yield what I think the OP wants.

The EPS file format does not support transparency by any means except a clipping path.

You need to make a clipping path. Draw a path using the Pen tool around the part of the image you wish to preserve, then save the path in the Paths palette and make it a clipping path.

Note that you cannot have translucency or soft, feathered transparency–the EPS format does not permit these things.
