I would try Illustrator, and use Photoshop for any type of raster FX you need placed into AI.
Better to use InDesign, but given your choices, I’d put it together in Illustrator.

I’d suggest Illustrator instead of Photoshop. You might run into some size constraints with Photoshop and resolution with an image that large. With Illustrator you’ll be able to keep the type vector (unless it’s effect heavy) and thereby reduce file size and still keep your output clean.
You’ll have to forgive my lack of knowledge on your specific printer, but can it handle prints that long? Can it take paper off a roll?
You might be looking at doing a heck of a lot of tiling and piecing the many prints together to achieve the final product. With Illustrator you can use your page setup in combination with the page tool to help set up your print areas.
it cannot take paper off a roll, i had planned on splicing four sheets. I just need to know where i go to specify that i want it printed on four different pages, and where i can set an overlap.

OK, I was thinking of a larger model inkjet – so no external RIP.
In Illustrator, check the tiling feature – you can assign how what gets printed where….and such.
yes Illustrator will replace Corel – and no-one will gasp at you anymore…..
Correction – I’ve just spent 2 days trying to print from Illustrator a 144" long 200dpi image with abject failure and frustration – I’ve reinstalled Corel Draw 9 and am smiling again!
