Hi all, new to the group. I have a question about
sun fading on an old photo that I am restoring.
First, I am using Photoshop CS (thought that might
be pertinant info upon re-reading my post before
sending.. hehe) The photo in question had a lot
of white blotches (on a red shirt) that appeared
to be due to water damage. I was able to remove
these using the healing brush quite nicely. Now
the issue that I am dealing with is some sun
fading on the same shirt. It is mostly on the
left side moving over towards the right. It has
changed the color of the shirt to a faded red
instead of the normal (as far as i can tell
anyway) red color. I am having a hard time
selecting the area because there are so many
different colors visible because of said fading.
I would like the shirt on the photo to look
natural instead of a re-colored kind of look. Any
tips out there? Another photo that I am working
on for the same people seems (up-close) seems to
have orange blotches all over it, and severe sun
damage as well. The sun damage is so bad that I
can’t even be sure what the clothings natural
color at the time was. Any help would be greatly
appreciated!

Spots aside, I’ve done a tutorial that includes restoring a faded photograph that has turned blue:

If this example is not similar enough to your photograph, email me a copy of it and I’ll add it to the tutorial.
