I am desparetly seeking the Targa.8bi that originally shipped with Photoshop 7.0. As you know they changed it back to the old Alpha channel only method in lieu of the updated Transparency method when update 7.0.1 was released.

Unfortunately, after that, the full versions of 7.0 shipped with the 7.0.1 update in place, so there is no access to the Transparency version on the CD! Adobe offers downloads of the 7.0.1 Targa.8bi but not the (much better IMHO) 7.0 Targa.8bi version. I have searched very throughly the usenet groups, these forums and the internet and have not found one single source for the plugin.

Adobe really should make it available for download as an option to those who need it. Until then does anyone know where I can get it or could someone email it to me or something.

I guess the problem is, once you’ve installed the 7.01 fix, the targa plugin is updated.
So you’d have to have a 7.0 installation to get it from the plugin folder.
And everyone of course has run the update (like me) some time ago. The plugin is not a separate file on the 7.0 CD (I looked). There are some optional file format plugins on it, but the targa is buried in the install files.

Oh, meant to suggest.
Why don’t you just install PS 7, pull the plugin from HD, then do the
7.01 update, and put the older plugin back in the folder?

I did manage to get a hold of one. It works great. Just like PNG only Targa. The trouble with installing and grabbing it then updating is the CD I had was 7.0.1 already. Obviously Adobe began shipping the update as the distribution disk after the patch. I had an original 7.0 disk but was trying to avoid installing it in another machine as I already had two going, work and home…

Adobe really ought to make available as a download or let it become public domain as it really is a nice option as a plug-in.

Thanks for the help.
