I would like to put the gif89a into my Export (File -> Export), what file do I put in what folder.. I cant seem to find the file and the right folder.

Hope someone can help me with this. Ive got the new CS version.

I dont like Image Ready, so dont bother telling me how great it is, and how its much easier. 😉

what happens if you try to save as gif using file> save? doesn’t that produce a gif89a?

Sure, but I want the transparency/websafe/color dialog, and you do not get that with just saving to gif.

File>Save For Web. All your options are there.

You don’t have to go through ImageReady.

You refer to the CompuServe GIF which is a gif87 format not gif89a.

why do think save for web produces gif87?

It definitely doesn’t produce gif87 which didn’t support animation or transparency. I think Adobe have removed the plugin because it is completely redundant.

Mick, on my search for the 89a I found that a lot of others were looking for this plugin. Actually Ive already sent it to one.

Have a nice one 🙂

I have to agree with ChristineH…the GIF89a plugin is the first thing I install. It has the simple virtue of letting me experiment with which colors I want transparent and lets me pick them at the time I’m saving the file. Unfortunately, I can’t get an Action to invoke it in CS. For any Export function I try to record in an Action, it tells me that it’s "not available".

But surely you can do this and more from Save for Web much more easily and it can be invoked in an action. Perhaps I’m missing something here.

Oh brother.. think you guys pants are too tight. Take em off, take a break, have a kitkat or find a client to play with. Obviously you are just here to give people a bad day. Btw if you didn’t know one could download the gif89a plug-in for a long time for free on adobes site. Maybe it is not there any longer, and the reason might as well be because of new editions. To me it is not a new thing that some people like to work with the gif format this way. Why make it such a big fuzz out of it?! Gees.. grow up!

christine, it’s against tos to log in under multiple user names.

lars, please explain why you would download a plugin that supports a format that’s already included (in 2 locations) by default in the shipping application? 20 words or less please.

I see you are still after people. Must be a small world. Anyways if you look at my CPR-number (which of course you cannot) you will find that it is impossible for me to be Christine (a female).. but hey, what do you know (????).

Dear Dave, I do not want to download that plug-in. Please do read my message before asking me questions, ok dude? But Dave, what does it take for you to me nice to people? Is it that hard for you?

I was very bothered when they removed Gif89a from the Export folder.

I had a very publicised action distributed to some 200 book publishers in Denmark, in order for them to easily export book scans for our internet bookstore. (a resize, sharpen, export action in two sizes).

The good thing about the GIF89a export over all other exports was that you could preset GIF89a for 256 colors, and just leave it at that. No user input needed on output.

Now, what a mess!, new users are forced to ‘play around’ with Save For Web which gives us just as inconsistent results as I feared. You cant have SFW modal less in an action 🙁

Thats one heck of a good reason for the GIF89a export plug.

BTW, usually it is to be found in the Goodies folder on the CD.

But Dave, what does it take for you to me nice to people?

if you read this from the beginning I believe you’ll find that I started in this thread trying to be helpful but was ignored then insulted. I can be plenty nice when I’m shown respect in return.

Lol what a freak.. (ChristineH – 07:08am Jan 29, 2004 Pacific (#12 of 25))

how would you respond to that lars? would you be nice?

they YOU decide to log in and insult me:

Oh brother.. think you guys pants are too tight

for no reason. or are you the self appointed defender of the weak (minded)?

you will find that it is impossible for me to be Christine

did I accuse you of anything? i was addressing christine.

you’re right about one thing though, I was confusing you’re response with tmalcom’s and was genuinely interested in finding out why anyone would need/want/insist on downloading and installing something that provides a function that’s already in the software.

given a logical answer to that question, i might consider offering a heartfealt apology (if she/he apologies for calling me a freak first! nya! ‘sides… I’m a SUPER freak. I’m super freaky!)

gonna be a long day people…

try not to eat the paint chips.

TM,

which colors I want transparent and lets me pick them at the time I’m
saving the file<<

And so does Save for Web! You can drag ANY/ALL colours from the palette to the transparency symbol in S4W, You don’t HAVE to start with a transparent b/g image

Firstly, thanks Mathias for being the first to provide any informed and logical reason for using the plugin. It is not in the Goodies folder in CS, at least not in the one I downloaded.

Secondly, without getting too serious here, Dave has got to be one of the most helpful people to frequent this forum and I’ve never seen him being nasty to anybody. I think Lars has gotten this whole thing from the wrong side.

Dave, I remember when the word freak was a compliment – like somebody really cool. Maybe you should take it that way.

Lars, thanks for the therapeutic advice : the loosen your pants and play with a client technique. I can’t wait.

Len,

And it’s far, far easier just to click with the eyedropper in the plug-in than have to figure out which color it is and then drag it to the transparency icon. Fewer clicks = less work. I’ve also had some issues with files saved from S4W (and from IR itself) losing the transparency. Whether from my mistake or program error is up for debate, but it’s happened more than once and was the deciding factor in why I quit using S4W and went back to GIF89a.

And while I also (usually) consider the word "freak" to be compliment, the level of civility in these forums has deteriorated considerably of late…

tm, i’ve seen you around here and have no problem with you. i have no problem helping and usually being patient and nice about it. but when you’re trying to help and you basically get a reply like FU… NEXT… with no other explaination it’s hard to hold back.

so to the members of the forum, let me say Sorry for my outburst today. To CH, maybe a peek at this would be helpful:

again to the group at large, and especially to len, sorry.
