jpeg does not support transparency, gif, png, just to talk about compressed formats, do.

Depends whether it’s for the web, or print.

If it’s for the web you’ll have to use Gif as IE doesn’t support png. Otherwise, use PNG as it’s a much better format.

IE supports PNG, just won’t display transparency as-is (sighs indeed). But you can force it to display it with transparency anyway, example: <img src="blank.gif" style="width: 100px; height: 100px; filter: progid:DXImageTransform.Microsoft.AlphaImageLoader(src=’imag e.png’, sizingMethod=’scale’)" />
A simple javascript that writes either a normal IMG or the IE-fix tag depending ot the browser would do the trick.

would like to hear more about png for web. I know PS pretty well…but am not a big webbie….and would love to find someway to work with pngs rather than gifs.. the gifs are ok….but i would just like to work with a format that i prefer.
