I am currently working in Photoshop CS 8 and was hoping to find a way to create a default background with texture. We regularly use an action which crops and sizes an image to 720 x 534 and it defaults to a black (or what ever color) background. I was hoping to find a way to enhance the background but still being able to use the actions I’ve created.

You could fill your background with a custom pattern as part of your action.

You could also modify a layer with a Layer Style within your action. That way, if you decided after running the action that certain items might be better off without that texture—for whatever reason— you could simply remove that style or hide it.
