Hi all,

I’m having some trouble with Imageready CS. Previously I made a webpage in 3.0 (I believe), which worked fine.

When I opened the same unchanged psd file in Imageready CS and saved optimized as css, look what happens (please view with IE).

Note how there are white spaces between each slice in the navigation menu. Strangely, it shows up fine in Netscape. Also, when I look at the individual slice that is supposed to be where the white space is, it exists and I can see it.

Would greatly appreciate any help or advice on how to solve this. Thank you!

Images will do that if there’s a
between them. Try putting them in a table instead

Thank you for your response, Cathy.

Putting them into a table is an option, but it adds
additional problems for me. I would much rather use
css.

It should work since it worked before. And this should
not be beyond the capability of css. Furthermore, it
shows up fine in Netscape.

The white spaces do have an image associated with them,
which is a thin light blue slice the color of the menu
background. Why wouldn’t it show up?

Is there a difference between CS and 3.0, as far as how
I need to treat slices or save or anything?

Cathy,

Sorry I think I misunderstood you.

You mean group just the slices in
the nav panel into a table right?
I tried that. Didn’t fix it.

Sigh… 🙁

Check your code for line breaks. For instance, if you have 2 images appearing consecutively in your code, it’s a natural impulse to put a line break in the code, to keep the code neat and easy to read. Line breaks (like extra white spaces) won’t affect text, but they will sometimes cause the problems you’re having.

Just put all your consecutive images on the same line of code, and see if that solves your problem.

Thanks Susan,

I *think* i know what you mean…

I checked the code and it seems ok to me. The images
are seperated by the div tag. Also, the code was
generated by Imageready, so it seems like it should
be ok.

Alas, still looking for a solution.

It could still be the DIV tag causing your problems. You might try changing just one or two lines to see if that solves the problem.

In case you didn’t quite understand what I meant, instead of this:

<image1 etc>
Div tags here
<image2 etc>

Do this all on one line, with no spaces in between tags:

<image1 etc>div tags here<image2 etc>

Putting any spaces or line breaks in the code can cause the same problem you’ve got.

Susan,

HEY YOU’RE RIGHT! 🙂

That’s great. Thank you very much. It’s kind of a pain
to go in and manually change all the code to take out
spaces, but I guess I gotta do what I gotta do.

Unless there is some way to have Imageready generate code with no spaces?

Thanks again Susan and Cathy.

Hmm…

Since you guys are obviously pros, I was wondering if I
could bother you with 1 more question. I’m experimenting with very basic flash, and am having trouble getting it
to show up where it should. It shows up fine in IE, but
not in Netscape.

Please see the little clock in the upper left, in IE and Netscape.

<http://www.bluewavestudios.com/test/index.html>

See how it’s misplaced in Netscape? Is there a common fix for this?

Thank you!

I don’t see a clock in IE 5.5 either.
There is an odd white rectangle down in the lower left of the page, though. In the gray field where the company’s address is.

mac,

thanks for the heads-up. i guess if i don’t get this
figured out, i’ll just take the flash out. no big deal,
and probably better that way anyway. the clock functionality is not really needed. i was just trying to do some basic learning. 🙂

len,

I will do so in the future. it kind of just came up while I was getting my main question answered, so i thought i’d
mention it. but then i figured, might as well go for it
and ask the right way. thus the new post. thank you for
replying to me.
